Is Brent Alderfer the richest
former state regulator?

He certainly is different

How many former state regulators are worth several million dollars?
Rules of the road for California’s new ISO market-IV
Nov 15 audio conference

FERC liked California’s efforts to get a market going in the Golden State and thus gave the design a quick turnaround but pointed to some important caveats.  The Calif ISO has appointed Charles King as vice president of market development and program management. He’s the guy charged with getting the program going.  Join King along with Gary Ackerman from the Western Power Trading Forum and Nora Mead Brownell to learn the details of the program and ask the panelists your questions ... click here for details.
We wrote a headline once that said:
"Colorado PUC member campaigning for DG to open up markets."
He had just made a presentation for DG at DOE (RT, 12/23/98).
Fortunately for him he wasn't reappointed so he started a company called Community Energy in Pennsylvania (where he was born).
How many former PUC members do you know who have really earned millions the old fashioned way other than lawyers who have taken jobs with regulatory law firms?
Alderfer sold Community Energy of Wayne, Pa (Philadelphia), the wind energy firm, to Iberdrola, the large Spanish firm earlier this year for about $30 million in return for ownership of "the development pipeline and the marketing company," he said.
He doesn't get all the money, he reminded, since ownership was spread around among 20 people. We sense the money comes to investors in lumps corresponding to various goals negotiators agreed to when certain targets are reached.
Alderfer believes the price of a wind energy company has gone up in the past six months.
"For me it was just a matter of following the thing I liked best -- clean energy," Alderfer said.
Another thing that sets Alderfer apart from other former state regulators is that he's visited us in our offices.
One time -- probably in 1998 -- he came to see us and brought his daughter Cherylyn to see us. He sat her at a desk and gave her a sandwich for lunch.
She's now 12 and a student at the Westtown School near Philadelphia. Alderfer has remarried and now has a 1-1/2-year-old son named Aiden.
