Chairman Joseph Kelliher's term ends June 30 (RT, 11/13) and while President Bush will still be in office lots can happen in the interim.
Commissioner Suedeen Kelly is friend of Sen Jeff Bingaman, D-NM, who next year is to head the Senate Energy Committee.
He'll rely on her views about the next chairman and has a track record of blocking those he doesn't like.
Bingaman had kept Kelliher's nomination from moving forward until Republicans agreed to pair his appointment with Kelly's.
We weren't alone in noticing that Kelly seemed extra primed for an open meeting -- the first since the election.
        Her hair was done.
She wore what seemed like a new outfit and was smiling all the time.
        The message?
She's pumped up and come 2008 she wants to be the chair.
Kelliher needs to be extra nice to Kelly if he wants to keep his job.
Kelly assured attendees at the open meeting that her large number of dissents wasn't a reflection of the recent electoral swing.
She may have meant the opposite as a quaint way of talking.
Kelly in the two cases discussed meticulously laid out her minority views.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "I would note that this is the first commission meeting that we've had since the election. And I want to set everyone's mind at ease that the end of the honeymoon and the advent of my five dissents today has nothing to do with the results of the election."
        Commissioner Suedeen Kelly.
Kelliher responded "[I] don't know how to follow that ... My one comment will be that with greater diversity of views will sometimes come differences of views."
