Choice has been an issue in TVA since Bristol, Va, decided to shop with Cinergy several years ago.
     Much later AEP signed up nine co-ops and munis including Bristol (RT, 10/4/04).
     Now interim TVA Chairman Bill Baxter told Platts Electric Power Daily that TVA is open to the idea of choice although he'll try to persuade customers that TVA is the best.

Businesses should shop the way utilities do, advises Boulder, Colo, energy consultant EnergyWindow in a new white paper (www.energywindow.com).
     Prices-to-beat in Texas rose $11.55/mwh/year since the market opened there -- closely tied to gas prices.

Shopping picking up in Maryland

Maryland's power markets had an active month, with 1,161 customers moving to competitive suppliers, including some residential customers, mostly in Conectiv territory.
     Shopping numbers grew for almost all classes at all four Maryland IOUs in the month.
     Baltimore Gas & Electric C&Is shopped most, with 639 customers moving to the market.

Cirro to open free-standing
retail power store in Texas

Cirro Energy and its authorized agent Texstar Power Brokerage are bringing storefronts to      Texas's retail power market.
     The state's first free-standing retail power store is officially to open in San Angelo Aug 16.
     San Angelo is part of the tri-city area with Midland and Odessa.
